Bioguard® Back Up 2

BioGuard Back Up 2 Algaecide is BioGuard’s most effective algae preventative. The highly effective formula prevents wide variety of algae growth. It’s stable in sunlight and will not evaporate. The activity of this product increases as water temperature rises, which is when you need protection the most. Back Up has a powerful surfactant/wetting agent, which makes it able to work in the tiny cracks and crevices where algae starts. This product will not affect pH levels and is non-staining.

Directions

Pre-Treatment Checklist:

  1. Ensure all pool equipment is working properly. Clean or backwash the filter following manufacturer’s directions.
  2. Adjust stabilizer levels to 30-50 ppm by adding stabilizer.
  3. Check water alkalinity, pH, and calcium hardness with a test kit or test strip. Adjust alkalinity to 80-125 for plaster pools, 125-150 ppm for vinyl or fiberglass pools by adding an alkalinity increaser. Adjust pH to 7.2-7.8 by adding a pH decreaser to lower the pH, or by adding a pH Increaser to raise pH. Adjust calcium hardness to 200-275 ppm for plaster pools, and 175-225 ppm for vinyl or fiberglass pools by adding a calcium hardness increaser.

BioGuard® Stabilizer 100

BioGuard Stabilizer 100 is a granular, totally soluble product that prevents free chlorine residual loss due to sunlight. Without Stabilizer 100, chlorine quickly dissipates and consumption increases. This product is formulated to reduce maintenance costs and chlorine consumption. It is intended only for outdoor, chlorinated pools. The key ingredient of this product is cyanuric acid.

Directions

Use 1 pound of this product per 3,000 gallons of pool water to provide an intial stabilizer level of 40 ppm. The use of 1 pound per 4,000 gallons of pool water will provide an intial stabilizer level of 30 ppm. Broadcast directly into pool, scattering over the surface of water. For pools with plastic piping, this product may be slowly added through the skimmer. Keep the water circulating continuously for 24 hours after addition. When the product reaches the filter there may be a temporary increase in filter pressure which will dissipate as the product dissolves. Do not backwash for 48 hours after application of this product.

Bioguard® Instant Stabilizer 100

BioGuard Instant Stabilizer 100 (1 gal) prevents the flood of free chlorine due to sunlight. This quick-dissolving formula is easier to apply than granular stabilizer. Protecting your chlorine with this product reduces chlorine consumption and maintenance costs.

Directions

  1. Shake Well.
  2. With circulation pump running, slowly pour BioGuard Instant Stabilizer 100 into pool skimmer or directly into pool while walking around the edge of pool. Brush to rapidly disperse product.
  3. Rinse container with pool water and shake to ensure all product is removed from the bottom of the bottle.
  4. Pour remaining rinse solution into the skimmer or pool.

Dosage Tips:

1 gallon of BioGuard Instant Stabilizer 100 raises CYA levels by 32 ppm per 10,000 gallons.

Note: If CYA level is less than 30 ppm, calculate gallons of BioGuard Instant Stabilizer 100 need by using the following formula:

4 fl oz added to 10,000 gallons = 1 ppm increase of conditioner stabilizer level.

BioGuard® Lo ‘N Slo

BioGuard Lo N Slo reduces pH and total alkalinity in pool water. This product is generally easier to use and store than liquid muriatic acid. Keeping your pool’s pH level balanced is not only important for swimmer comfort; it also helps keep your equipment and pool finish in good condition. Swimmers may return to the pool only 15 minutes after application. You can slowly and safely reduce pH and total alkalinity with Lo N Slo.

Directions

Balance the total alkalinity in the pool water to 125-150 ppm. Pool pH should remain between 7.2 and 7.6 for the most effective use of chlorine. Test the pH using a reliable test method such as BioGuard 4-Way Test Strips. If the test shows a pH above 7.6, then add this product to the pool water using the recommneded dosage.

Add this product when the pool is not in use. Broadcast product into the deep end with the pump and fiter running. Never add more than 1.5 lbs of this product per 10,000 gallons of pool water at any one time. Allow the pool water to recirculate for two hours and retest the pH. Repeat teatment as necessry. Newly plastered pool may require frequent treatments for the first frew weeks whil the pool is “curing”. Do not add the product near metal fittings or allow the pH to drop below 7.2. Break up undissolved clumps of product that may remain on the bottom of the pool.

Do not add this product directly to pools with colored plaster surfaces. Choose one of the following methods for application. Method 1. Predissolve this product in a bucket of cool tap water, adding no more than 1 pound of product for each 3 gallons of water used for predissolving. With circulation pump operating, pour the solution into pool water in an area of strong circulation from a return fitting. Operate the circulation pump continuously for the next 8 hours. Method 2. Do not use this method for pools with metal plumbing, stainless steel filter housing or metallic pump impellers. Remove all products from the skimmer. With the circulation pump operating, apply the appropriate dosage slowly into the skimmer. Apply at a rate not faster than 1 pound per minute. A slight increase in filter preasure may be observed, but is not cause for concern. Operate the circulation pump continuously for the next 24 hours. Do not add any granular or liquid products to the skimmer of the pool during this 24 hour period.

BioGuard® Balance PAK 200

BioGuard Balance Pak 200 raises pH in pool water. Keeping your pool’s pH level balanced helps prevent equipment corrosion, etching of plaster, and wrinkling of liners caused by low pH. It is also important to swimmer comfort as it prevents eye irritation due to low pH. In addition, many algaecides require the pH to be balanced in order to work properly. Keep your pool in proper balance with Balance Pak 200.

Directions

To raise pH, distribute a maximum of one pound per 10,000 gallons of water, directly into the deep end of the pool. Allow water to recirculate two to three hours, recheck pH, and repeat treatment if necessary.

Bioguard® Balance PAK 100

BioGuard Balance Pak 100 is used to raise total alkalinity. Maintaining proper total alkalinity prevents pH from bouncing due to rain, bather load, and other chemical applications. Low alkalinity may also cause pool water to be corrosive to the metal and plastic with which it comes in contact. This product is proven to help prevent pool staining, plaster etching or liner wrinkling. The contents of Balance Pak 100 dissolve quickly when added directly to water.

Directions

Add directly to the pool with the pump and filter running.

BioGuard® Balance PAK 300

BioGuard Balance Pak 300 is a calcium hardness increaser. This product boosts calcium hardness to help prevent equipment corrosion, etching of plaster and wrinkling of liners. It has a unique pelletized formulation which means faster dissolving and less cloudiness. Low calcium hardness can cause staining, etching, or distorting of the pool’s finish. Plaster etched by low calcium hardness will become abrasive and uncomfortable for swimmers. Rough plaster also increases algae problems and makes cleaning more difficult. It is important to keep your pool water balanced in order to get the most effective use out of your chemicals.

Directions

Calcium Hardness in pool water should be maintained in the 175-275 ppm range. Never allow calcium hardness to remain below 100 ppm. Add this product directly to pool water by scattering it over the water surface. Do not predissolve this treatment as heat is generated when this product contacts water. Use surface compatible brush to brush away undissolved granules off pool surface. The addition of 4 lbs. of this product per 10,000 gallons of water will raise calcium hardness approximately 40 ppm. The addition of 10 lbs. of this product per 10,000 gallons of water will raise calcium hardness appoximately 100 ppm.

BioGuard® Pool Magnet Plus

BioGuard Pool Magnet Plus prevents staining due to iron, copper and manganese. It also eliminates discolored water from metals. This product has been recently reformulated and is now more concentrated and effective as ever. Pool experts recommend that this product be used monthly in pools that hold iron-containing fill water. It is only necessary to be used monthly because it stays effective for 3-4 weeks. It is recommended to use Pool Magnet Plus in conjunction with BioGuard Sparkle Up to remove metals from the water.

Directions

Stain Prevention:

To treat for metals in pool water, backwash filter, then allow pump to run continuously. If the total amount of metals present exceeds 1.0 ppm also use BioGuard Sparkle-Up Filter Aid to assist in metal removal. Use 1 quart of this product per 10,000 gallons of water per 1.0 ppm of metals. Maximum recommended dose is 3 quarts per 10,000 gallons. If pool has been shocked , wait 24 to 48 hours before applying this product to obtain maximum effectivenes. Add directly to the pool in the area of any localized metal stains. Some temporary clouding may occur. Product should be added when chlorine is 1.0 ppm or less and 7 days prior to superchlorination to minimize staining potential. Backwash the filter as indicated by pressure build up. Never allow filter pressure to exceed the limit established by the manufacturer.

Maintenance Dose:

When make-up water contains metals, add 3 oz. of this product per each 1,000 gallons of water added to the pool.

Removal of Fresh Stains:

Many fresh metallic stain can be removed by the action of this product. Turn circulation off for 8 hours. Slowly, and as close to the surface of the water as possible, pour one to three (depending on severity of stains) quarts of this product directly in the area of the the stain. Do not swim or operate pump for 24 hours. After waiting period, turn pump on, circulate water, and brush pool for 5 to 7 days. Use BioGuard Sparkle-Up in the filter to remove redissolved metals. Repeat treatment for large metal stains. For white plaster pools where large metal stains have aged into the pools surface, draining and acid-washing is recommended. Consult your BioGuard Dealer regarding this procedure.

Bioguard® Scale Inhibitor

BioGuard Scale Inhibitor prevents scale build-up from high calcium levels. It also prevents stains caused by iron, copper and manganese. This product has recently been reformulated and is four times more effective than it was previously. Regular use of this new concentrated formula prevents scale build-up on pool surfaces, piping, filtration, and heating elements. This product will not affect pH. Scale Inhibitor will continue working 3-4 weeks after application.

Directions

Initial Treatment:

Backwash filter according to manufacturers directions. With the pump running add 1 quart of this product per 10,000 gallons of water, pouring product directly into the pool. Continue to run pump for 24 to 48 hours after this addition.

Maintenance Treatment:

For the maintenance dose, apply 16 fl. oz. of this product per 10,000 gallons of pool water once a month. Add product directly to pool water with pump on. Maintenance doses should be used for pools in areas where excessive hardness or metals cause constant scale and staining problems.

Fresh Stain Removal:

Many fresh (less than 5 days old) metallic stains can be removed by this product. Add this product at a rate of 1 quart per 10,000 gallons of water. Apply directly to the pool in the area of the stains. Brush the stained area daily for 3 to 5 days. Large metal stains may require repeat treatments. Where metal stains have aged into the pools surface, draining and acid washing is recommended for white plaster pools only. Consult your BioGuard dealer regarding this matter.

BioGuard® Chem-Out

BioGuard ChemOut eliminates chlorine, bromine, or hydrogen peroxide deposits in pool water. This product is intended to reduce swimming downtime due to high chlorine levels. It will not affect pH levels, so there will be no readjusting necessary after use of this product. ChemOut is also great for neutralizing chlorine or bromine when converting a pool to Soft Swim. In addition, it is sometimes necessary to lower chlorine or bromine levels when treating severe metal stains and when dealing with metal problems.

Directions

  1. Allow at least 8-12 hours for superchlorination treatment to oxidize wastes and chloramines from the pool water. Add BioGuard ChemOut to lower the free chlorine reading to the required 3.0 ppm level before swimming. Before adding any product to the pool, measure the free chlorine in the water. This must be done to determine the correct dosage of BioGuard ChemOut.
  2. To Measure the free chlorine in water, test using either a BioGuard water test kit or the BioGuard 4-way Test Strips. First, test the superchlorinated pool as you would normally. If the available or free chlorine reading is above the highest level shown on the tests color comparitor or to get a more definitive result at high chlorine levels, it may be necessary to dilute the water sample. To dilute the water sample, using a measuring cup, add one cup of pool water to one cup of tap water. Gently stir the diluted water and then test the diluted water using either BioGuard water test kit or BioGuard 4-way test strips. When you have determined the free chlorine level of the diluted sample multiply this level by 2. You now have the free chlorine level of the pool.
  3. To calculate the ppm available chlorine that must be removed from the pool, subtract 3 ppm from the free chlorine level of the pool. The resulting number is the amount of free chlorine you must remove before it is safe to swim. Use the chart on the bottle to calculate the required dose using the measuring cup supplied with this product. Add this product directly to the pool scattering around the edge of the pool. Keep the pump on and water circulating.
  4. Do not add treatment through skimmer.

BioGuard® Stow-Away

BioGuard StowAway cleans and deodorizes pool covers to prepare them for storage. Even when pool covers are stored wet, this product cleans, deodorizes, and prevents the cover from sticking together when it is folded. StowAway aids in stain and soil removal and extends the life of most covers. It is a versatile product that may be used on solar covers, pool umbrellas, and other pool-side items. Prepare your pool cover for storage the right way with StowAway.

Directions

  1. While cover is still on pool, remove all debris and water from cover.
  2. Remove cover from pool and spread on lawn, pool deck, or driveway.
  3. Squirt this product over the entire cover and brush clean (A nylon bristle pool brush and telescopic pole are excellent for this purpose).
  4. Rinse off loosened soils with water.
  5. Fold pool cover, squirting this product full strength between each fold.
  6. Store folded cover in a safe place.

BioGuard® Erase Iron Stain Remover

  1. If your swimming pool is equipped with a heater, first turn the heater off, then isolate from the circulation system.
  2. In order to prevent damage to your swimming pool, do not allow un-dissolved particles to sit on surfaces for more than 30 seconds.
  3. Adjust the chlorine/bromine residual to less than 1 ppm (for Softswim pools, a B residual of 30 to 50 ppm).
  4. Adjust pH to between 7.0 to 7.4.
  5. Adjust alkalinity to between 125 to 150 ppm (or 80 to 150 ppm if using a salt generator).
  6. Adjust calcium hardness to less than 400 ppm.

Stain Treatment:

  1. Wearing safety glasses/goggles and with the circulation pump running, add 2 lbs of Iron Stain Remover per 12,000 gallons of pool water. Add the product along the edges of your pool for even distribution. If stains are concentrated in any one area, apply product over it. Use a surface compatible brush to disperse any un-dissolved particles.
  2. Allow water to circulate for 1 hour, then apply the correct dosage of Pool Magnet Plus (or Softswim Stain Control for Softswim pools) per label directions.
  3. Allow pool to circulate water for 24 hours.
  4. Apply Sparkle Up (or Softswim Filter Aid for Softswim pools) from filter by backwashing or cleaning cartridges.
  5. Apply BioGuard Kleen It (or Softswim Filter Cleaner for Softswim pools) according to label directions to remove any trapped metals in the filter itself. Complete stain removal may take up to two weeks or require a second treatment.
  6. Readjust water chemistry back to optimal ranges (pH between 7.2 to 7.6, alkalinity 125-150 ppm or 80 to 150 for pools with salt generators). Also readjust chlorine/bromine or Softswim sanitizers to correct levels as determined by label directions. Softswim pools also need to adjust Clarifier levels to 30 ppm.
  7. After treatment is complete, use Pool Magnet Plus or other metal-preventing chemicals to stop metals from building up in your pool water. For Softswim pools, use Softswim Stain Control. Always follow label directions when adding chemicals.
  8. A repeat treatment may be necessary if stains are still present 48 hours after completing the treatment cycle.

Do not apply any shock treatment to the pool water for 4 days following completion of step 3.
