Remember those epic parties of your youth? The ones that are referred to with (a sometimes disproportionate amount of) reverence as you reminisce about the “good ‘ole days”? They were fun and (clearly) memorable and, every once in awhile, it’s nice to shed just a little bit of your hard earned “responsible adult” status and just have some F-U-N. Especially now that you’ve acquired some of the coveted adult toys (not THAT kind!) that are on the market – like a seriously amazing hot tub. So, with that in mind, and with it being New Year’s Eve and all, we thought we’d provide you with a few tips to make your next par-tay a hit from start to finish.

  1. THE GUEST LIST – Since we mentioned the words earlier, let’s assume (and, yes, I know what that does to you and me) that this particular party is of the hot tub variety. Keeping that in mind, you KNOW that there are certain friends who will want to hop right in and others that will shy away and wind up hanging with the crab dip all night. So, choose your guest list accordingly – ie, targeted at those who will actually enjoy the main event. Also, keep in mind the maximum occupancy of your spa – the last thing you want is someone literally left out in the cold.

  2. KEEP FOOD ON THE LIGHTER SIDE – We’ve all heard the old adage, “don’t go swimming for 30-60-90 minutes (with the time limit being completely dependent upon the individual enforcing the rule) after eating”. And, while hot tubbing isn’t exactly an Olympic sport, we can pretty much guarantee that most of your guest won’t want to be traipsing around in their swimsuits with a belly full of prime rib and potatoes – toss in a raised body temperature and you’ve got yourself a {potential} recipe for disaster. So, stick to lighter finger foods that are easy to eat, appetizers, chips and dip, etc.

  3. TOWELS, TOWELS, TOWELS – You KNOW people are going to be getting in and out of the hot tub all.night.long. So, make sure you’ve got an abundance of towels on hand so that everyone can be assured a dry one for all those trips in and out of the spa. We promise that your guests will love you for it…and so will your furniture and carpet!

  4. ACCESSORIES AND MUSIC – When it comes to your tunes remember, music can set the tone! Your guests will appreciate a fun selection of music, so plan accordingly – that means playlists, people…not just setting your iPod to “shuffle” and hoping for the best. The last thing you want is for Barry White popping in to say “Hi” right in between Beyonce and Rihanna (or Zeppelin and Aerosmith). Also, there’s tons of things like waterproof cards, floating board games, and drink trays that all have the ability to make things a bit more fun. And, on that note…

  5. HAVE FUN! – Remember, if YOU’RE not having fun, chances are that your guests won’t be either. You don’t want people to have to start faking food poisoning (at least you hope their faking – damn crab dip!) just to get out of staying at the party. So, kick back, relax, and just have fun!

  6. Follow these tips and you’ll be darned near guaranteed an awesome party. Enjoy!
